Chino High School Wins Grand Master's Trophy
A familiar face took home the coveted Grand Master’s Trophy at the 34th Annual Fiesta Bowl Band Championship.
Chino High 77th Calvary Marching Band, from Chino High School in Chino, California won its third Grand Master’s Trophy, scoring a 96.4 out of a possible 100 points in competition. Chino became the first school to win three times, winning in both 2003 and 2007.
Chino finished second in the preliminaries to Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona, but rebounded with a strong finals performance to capture the title.
Astounding the judges with its visual, percussion, auxiliary and musical performances, Chino captured first or second place in each of those categories, failing only to place in the Best Drum Major category.
Mountain View High School, from Mesa, Arizona finished in second place in the competition. Riverside King High School, from Riverside, California finished third.
The marching bands of Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Stanford Universities, dazzled the crowd with spectacular performances before the award ceremonies. This was the first time in the event’s history that four university bands participated.
