Fiesta Bowl Band Championship

Q: What is the Band Championship?
A: The Fiesta Bowl Band Championship is an event showcasing top high school bands from across the nation. There are two parts to this competition: a preliminary and a final.  The preliminary event determines placement moving forward to the final competition. 

Q: When and where is the event?
A: The Band Championship will take place on December 30, 2011 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Q: How do I buy tickets for this event?
A: To purchase tickets, please visit the “Tickets” tab on this website.  General admission is $16, reserved seating is $26 and premium seating is $29. Students and military personnel may purchase tickets for $12 with a valid ID. All tickets allow entrance into the preliminary and final competitions.

Q: May I volunteer with the Band Championship?
A: Yes! The Fiesta Bowl is always looking for willing volunteers for all of our events. Please visit the “Volunteers” tab and complete the volunteer interest form and application.

Q: Who may participate in this event?
A: High school bands from across the country.

Q: Who do I contact for information on participating?
A: Interested bands are asked to contact Jordan Whitlach at bands@fiestabowl.org for more information. This year’s competing bands have already been chosen.

Q: How are performance times scheduled for the competing bands during the preliminary competition?
A: Performance times for the preliminary competition are scheduled based on a random draw.

Q: How are finalist bands performance times selected?
A: The finals schedule is based on the bands' performances in the preliminary competition with the top-scoring band competing last.

Q: How are the performances adjudicated?
A: Bands receive recorded evaluations from each judge. There are nine judges and scoring is based on the following (* averaged scores):

Judge 1 – Music Performance – 30 points*
Judge 2 – Music Performance – 30 points*
Judge 3 – Music General Effect – 20 points
Judge 4 – Visual Performance – 30 points*
Judge 5 – Visual Performance – 30 points*
Judge 6 – Visual General Effect – 20 points
Judge 7 – Percussion – 100 points
Judge 8 – Auxiliary – 100 points
Judge 9 – Drum Majors – 100 points
