Destination: Tempe is your ticket to fun!

Tempe is an unparalleled destination rich in culture, history and events. Visitors come here to experience fun-filled special events, see Broadway shows, discover the Sonoran Desert, explore entertaining, shopping and dining districts, and visit Arizona State University (ASU). Located in the heart of the metropolitan Phoenix area, Tempe is easily accessible via four freeways and is just 10 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Tempe is home to the main campus of ASU, one of the largest universities in the country. The Mill Avenue District exemplifies the spirit and energy of this cutting-edge college town. Pedestrian-friendly Mill Avenue is home to an eclectic array of more than 100 shops, restaurants, taverns and nightclubs – all within easy walking distance of hotels, ASU and outdoor recreation at Tempe Town Lake. In one day, you can splash around on a kayak, shop for the perfect gift, dine at a sidewalk café, see a theatre production, watch a funky local band, hike up “A” Mountain or cheer at an ASU game.

Our nightlife simply can’t be beat. You can stop at a brewery, try some seasonal beers and relax with friends, see the big game at a sports bar or dance the night away at a local hotspot. Throughout Tempe, the strains of local and national musical acts beckon patrons into a variety of clubs, coffeehouses and eateries.

From visual arts to live entertainment, Tempe’s arts scene is thriving. See a performance with the whole family at the new Tempe Center for the Arts, a visually stunning venue located on the south bank of Tempe Town Lake. ASU Gammage, a theater designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is home to a successful Broadway series each year. There are also more than 20 free museums and galleries at ASU, ranging from contemporary art to science to historic collections.

No trip to Tempe is complete without shopping. Arizona Mills offers the ultimate shopping experience, with more than 175 popular stores, and entertainment venues such as GameWorks and the IMAX Theatre.IKEA, the world’s leading home furnishings retailer, is decorating Tempe with its 342,000-square-foot store. Tempe Marketplace is bustling night and day with 1.3-million-square-feet of retail, dining and nightlife destinations, and live music outdoors in “The District” Thursday through Sunday evenings.

Recreational activities are abundant in the surrounding Sonoran Desert. Just north of Tempe Town Lake, Papago Park is the perfect place to hike, mountain bike or picnic. The park is home to several attractions, such as The Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Garden and Arizona Historical Society Museum, which allows you to envision the area’s development from a Hohokam settlement to a modern metropolis.
