Scottsdale, Ariz. – The 12th Annual Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge featuring Microsoft Mission Control is about to blast off! The popular annual science event will take place on the ASU West Campus from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7.

The Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge featuring Microsoft Mission Control is in its 12th year as a “Festival of College Football” event.  The contest allows 5th-8th grade students from Arizona school districts to work in teams to develop plans for an International Lunar Base complete with a physical scale model.  Students use critical thinking, communication, team building and decision-making skills while expanding their knowledge in science, math and other subject areas.

This year 56 schools applied to participate in the challenge.  About 1,200 students will participate this year – 200 more than average.  Students will experience games and other fun software from Microsoft Mission Control, which is a part of the competition each year in the effort to promote the power of technology and innovation.

The event will be held at Arizona State University West Campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Rd. Glendale, Ariz. 85069 in the La Sala Ballroom.

Winners from each day of the preliminaries will advance to the finals.  The final competition and announcement of the winning team will be held on Dec. 30 at 9:00 a.m. at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria, Ariz., and will feature NASA Astronauts.  For more information please contact Chris Myers atcmyers@fiestabowl.org or visit www.fiestabowl.org.
