13th Annual Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge Featuring Microsoft Mission Control Preliminary Competition
Scottsdale, Ariz. –The 13th Annual Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge featuring Microsoft Mission Control holds its three day preliminary competition beginning Monday, December 5. The popular annual science event will take place on the Arizona State University West Campus from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. from Dec. 5-7.
The Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge featuring Microsoft Mission Control is in its 13th year as a “Festival of College Football” event. The contest allows 5-8th grade students from Arizona schools to work in teams to develop plans for an international lunar base complete with a physical scale model. Students use critical thinking, communication, team building and decision-making skills while expanding their knowledge in science, math and other subject areas.
This year over 240 schools applied to participate in the challenge and more than 1,000 students will compete. Students will get to experience games and motivational software from Microsoft Mission Control, part of the competition each year to promote the power of technology and innovation.
The top two teams from each day of the preliminaries advance to the finals. The final competition and announcement of the winning team, to be held on Thursday, December 29 at 9 a.m. at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria, Arizona, will feature a special presentation from NASA Astronauts.
The ASU West Campus is located at 4701 W. Thunderbird Road in Glendale. The event will be held in the La Sala Ballroom.
