Fiesta Bowl Announces 2012-13 Committee Chairman

Scottsdale, Ariz.– Fiesta Bowl Chairman of the Board Steve Whiteman announced today that Brett Benton has been named Fiesta Bowl Committee Chairman for the 2012-13 season. Benton will oversee the Committee’s activities in coordinating fundraising, member participation, volunteer outreach, charitable involvement and event planning for the Bowl.

Benton joined the Fiesta Bowl Committee in 2004 and has held numerous leadership roles within the organization, including the Committee’s executive council last year. Benton volunteered on the media operations committee as assistant chair in 2006 and chair in 2007. In 2009, he was a fundraising coach and later became a sales commissioner in 2010. He has served on game operations and has also been a team liaison since 2010.

“I have admired the Fiesta Bowl, its many supporting events and all of the great volunteers, who passionately serve, since I arrived in the Valley of the Sun 27 years ago,” said Benton. “I am honored to have this opportunity to serve the Fiesta Bowl and further its efforts to support the community while providing our guests and their fans with an experience they cherish.”

The Fiesta Bowl Committee is comprised of dedicated business and civic leaders who work as the backbone of the Fiesta Bowl’s fundraising efforts and provide the leadership for the Fiesta Bowl’s many annual events.  The non-profit, community-based Fiesta Bowl provides great family activities, national prestige and major economic impact.  Annually, hundreds of thousands of spectators and participants experience the Fiesta Bowl’s combination of hospitality, pageantry and family fun. Fiesta Bowl Committee members work with the Bowl’s Board of Directors, staff, sponsors and volunteers to continue providing this traditional Fiesta Bowl experience.

Benton is an Iowa native. He attended Delwood High School and is a graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa. He is currently Vice President at Horizon Insurance Group. In addition to his involvement with the Fiesta Bowl Committee, Benton is the President of the Board of Directors of Waste Not, Inc. Benton and his wife Jackie, live in Phoenix with their two daughters, Alex and Cameron.
