Fiesta Bowl Champions

Volunteers are the heart of the Fiesta Bowl.

They tackle the toughest assignments and are the utility players who set the Fiesta Bowl apart. We all profit from the passion – and thanks to our volunteers, we all win.

The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl crowns a new champion every season. But year in and year out, the volunteers are the real Fiesta Bowl Champions.

A dozen volunteers from different ages and backgrounds were chosen to represent the nearly 3,000 volunteers as Fiesta Bowl Champions. Ranging from 12 to 80 years old, the volunteers have more than 150 years of combined experience.

They have done everything from driving a car during the Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade to setting up for the Fiesta Bowl Million Dollar Hole-In-One. As this year’s games and events draw closer, these volunteers will put in countless hours of service, ensuring that guests enjoy themselves, events run smoothly and the Valley of the Sun is showcased as the wonderful and welcoming place that it is.

Fiesta Bowl Champion Tom Fridena has volunteered for 41 years – every year in the Fiesta Bowl’s history.  He has worked nearly every event and understands the importance of giving back to the community.

“There’s such a thing that if you live in the community, you got to give back to the community. Because when you’re taking, you’ve got to give back. It’s an honor to participate. It has been a great life’s experience,” he said.

The youngest volunteer is 12-year-old Carson Mero. Following in her father Kelly Mero’s footsteps, she said she has fun volunteering for the Fiesta Bowl.

“It makes me feel good inside, because I know I did something good for someone, and to see that someone is really happy with what I did and I helped them out, that makes me feel really good inside.” Carson said.

The Volunteer tab on our new website – -- provides a forum to learn more about our volunteers and the effort they put in to ensure the success of the Fiesta Bowl, Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and surrounding.
