Eight junior college basketball teams from around the country will compete in the three-day double-elimination tournament at Mesa Community College that concludes on December 30.
The competition brings together some of the best talent in junior college basketball. The all-time leader in JUCO wins, Coach Gene Buss, leads his Three Rivers (Missouri) Raiders into the tournament. The Monroe (New York) Mustangs are currently the no. 1 team in the nation, boasting a perfect 12-0 record. The reigning champion of the tournament, The Salt Lake CC (Utah) Bruins, is back and ranked no. 5 in the country, as they look to build upon their success from a year ago. Junior colleges from Texas, North Dakota, Illinois and Arizona round out the field.
Three Rivers defeated Salt Lake in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday.
