Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep Named Fiesta Bowl Arizona High School Team of the Week

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Scottsdale Notre Dame Preparatory Saints were named the Fiesta Bowl Arizona High School Team of the Week after beating Phoenix Horizon High School 31-28 and earning a playoff berth in the last game of the season. 

The Saints, whose head coach Scott Bemis is away from the team battling cancer, rallied from a late deficit under interim coach Gary Gregory to earn a spot in the Division II playoffs as the No. 14 seed. Junior running back Luke Taffuri scored the game-winning touchdown from six yards out.   

Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep beat out Tucson Salpointe Catholic for Team of the Week honors. Salpointe Catholic High School finished the regular season 9-1 and faces Notre Dame Prep in the first round of the AIA Division II playoffs next Friday night

Others receiving votes included Phoenix Desert Vista, Queen Creek, Mesa Desert Ridge, Glendale Cactus, Tucson, Seton Catholic and Fountain Hills. 

The Fiesta Bowl Arizona High School Team of the Week is an effort to promote high school football by recognizing deserving teams statewide. Each week, the winning team will be featured on FOX Sports Arizona's AIA High School Game of the Week telecast and on its website -

The Fiesta Bowl Arizona High School Team of the Week is selected by a panel of seven media members and a longtime high school coach.
