Team From Kyrene Aprende Middle School Wins 15th Annual Aerospace Challenge

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- "TerraeInProcellarum" from Kyrene Aprende Middle School in Chandler has won the 15th Annual Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by US Airways final competition. The competition was held on Saturday, February 22 at the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix.
Nearly 900 students from 34 schools across Arizona participated in the preliminary competition held February 3-5. Out of the 193 teams that participated, six teams advanced to the finals. The final competition started with each team presenting its project to Honeywell judges. The winning team was announced at the end of judging.
As the winners of the Aerospace Challenge, "TerraeInProcellarum" receive a VIP trip and will be recognized on the field at the 2015 Fiesta Bowl. The team also will appear on AZTV's Morning Scramble.
The Honeywell Fiesta Bowl Aerospace Challenge presented by US Airways allows fifth through eighth grade students from Arizona schools to work in teams to develop plans for an international lunar base complete with a physical scale model. Students use critical thinking, communication, team building and decision-making skills while expanding their knowledge in science, math and other subject areas.
