Twenty Teams Compete in First Fiesta Bowl Basketball Showdown

The inaugural Fiesta Bowl Basketball Showdown took place November 22 and 23 in Tucson. The event featured 7th and 8th grade boys and girls teams competing in a round-robin style tournament at the Sporting Chance Center.
Twenty teams from around Arizona packed the Center in Tucson for this two-day event. 
Marana was the 7th Grade Division Champion earning wins over Wilson and Amphi. In the 7th Grade Club Division the Spartans were crowned the champions, winning against the Heat and the Roadrunners. 
The 8th Grade and 8th Grade Club Divisions were separated into Orange and Blue pools with three teams in each. The Spartans won the Blue Pool, while the Roadrunners Black won the Orange in the Club Division. The Spartans emerged victorious in the matchup between the two. 
The winners in the 8th Grade Division were St. Cyrils of the Blue Pool and Marana of the Orange Pool. St. Cyrils was coached to victory of its pool by Basketball Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson. Marana was the overall winner of the Division.
